We have finally moved into our new home! We haven’t unpacked, or started the many renovations we have planned, but we are here. It was a long road from selling our last home to buying our new one, but I can’t help but think that the highway was straightened, paved and cushioned by the help of our realtor, Peter Howell.In a world of DIY, Kijiji, Property Guy and Sell this House, the temptation is to save fees and be your own marketer and real estate agent. I like to think I can do anything I set my mind to, given time and ideal conditions, but I do know my limitations and even one mistake or omission could be costly in the end! Could I have accomplished this massive undertaking on my own? Why would I even consider trying when someone as reliable, capable and accomplished as Peter will do it all -- and still take my phone calls when all is said and done.
Selling your home is stressful! Does anyone want to buy it? Will they pay what it’s worth? Is it worth what we want? Will we sell it in time? How can anyone live in a show house 24/7 without a dirty dish or creating crumbs? Peter walked us through the process, helped us stage our home and created a workable timeline. He scrutinized offers, amended conditions, sought legal advice and gave recommendations and the deal was done. He did not help us pack, but he provided recommendations from movers to painters, lawyers to financial advice and we appreciated all the help.
Finding the perfect home of our dreams in less than 90 days was a challenge, but Peter rolled up his sleeves and followed up on every whim we envisioned. If we emailed a thought morning or night, he responded positively; and all while juggling other clients and his own personal life. Everyone has a story regarding the purchase of a house, and we are no exception. The deal was difficult, the conditions were not ideal and our frustration led us to throw up our arms and walk away. Peter had told us from the onset that he thought it would be a difficult transaction. But, in working with us, he knew this was the house we envisioned from the first day, and he took all the necessary steps to make sure it was finally ours. He made trips to county offices, talked to officials and lawyers and experts in all the related fields and most likely knows more about our house than we do.
As we all know making a move under any circumstances can be a very traumatic experience, yet combined with dedication and hard work Peter was able to make both situations run as smoothly as possible.
